7th Annual Historic Canyon Road Paint Out & Sculpt Out
Friday & Saturday, October 17 & 18, 2014
Historic Canyon Road Paint & Sculpt Out
Over 100 artists, both gallery represented and independent, will create works of art in one of the nation’s largest artist demonstrations.
NEW IN 2014
A Friday Night Art Walk offers the opportunity to experience the art of Canyon Road at many galleries that will stay open late because so many artists are in town. Attend artist openings & receptions. Meet artists, observe them at work, and view new exhibits.
Sculptors are introduced to the roster of artists in 2014. The event has been renamed the Paint Out & Sculpt Out! Many sculptors will reveal all or a part of their fascinating process for the first time on Canyon Road.
Flash Art is a public-participation event scheduled for 2:55 at 701 Canyon. Plan to be there Saturday for an exuberant finale to a perfectly artistic day.
PAINT & SCULPT OUT
More than 150 artists will spend Saturday on Canyon Road demonstrating their skill, talents, and passions. Experience the creative process of established and emerging artists – including painters, sculptors, weavers, jewelers, potters, and carvers.
The Paint Out & Sculpt Out celebrates the tradition of painting & sculpting “en plein air” that began a century ago on this iconic Santa Fe trail.
What has a hundred legs, moves only to music, and marches up Canyon Road every October? Answer: Santa Fe's Public School Marching Bands, of course! Join in the beat at this year's annual Historic Canyon Road Paint Out!
The SFPS Music Fest opens at noon with a festival parade complete with marching bands, musicians & singers from the Santa Fe Public Schools. State & local dignitaries who will be in the parade are:
Mayor Javier Gonzales
City Counselor Joseph Maestas
Cabinet Secretary Veronica Gonzales, Dept. of Cultural Affairs
Cabinet Secretary Monique Jacobson, Dept. of Tourism
Dr. Joel Boyd, Supt of SF Public Schools
Canyon Road will be closed to vehicular traffic beginning at 11:30 am because of the parade. Shuttle service from Paseo de Peralta to East Palace Avenue will be available at all other times.
STUDENT MUSICAL PERFORMANCES
Students from the Santa Fe Public Schools Music Education Program will perform on Canyon Road in conjunction with the 2014 SFPS Music Fest. While gracious adobe architecture gives Canyon Road its old world charm, diversity is its claim to fame. More than a hundred galleries, jewelry stores, clothing boutiques, home furnishings shops, artist studios, and gourmet restaurants line this magical half-mile.
As a collector, whether you prefer art that is contemporary, abstract, modern, expressionistic, figurative, photorealistic, traditional, western or Native American, it’s all here. Galleries showcase paintings in oil, acrylic, watercolor, and encaustic, fine-art photography, graphics such as lithographs, serigraphs, giclées, woodcuts, engravings, and monotypes, as well as sculpture in stone, bronze, wood, and glass.
Add something special to your life by visiting Canyon Road’s boutiques, which abound with unique fashions and wearable art. Jewelry stores dazzle with contemporary handmade adornments in gold and silver, and traditional and Native silverwork and inlays. Find that perfect enhancement for your home in shops featuring antiques and fine furniture, Native American pottery, rugs, gifts, folk art, and handmade crafts, as well as cutting-edge contemporary furnishings.
An artist colony in it's early history, Santa Fe still attracts painters and sculptors who work in studios along Canyon Road and invite the public to watch them at work.
